Abstract

Introduction: The high incidence of fires in the East Jakarta area certainly increases the risk of officer accidents among firefighters, so Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory for officers when carrying out firefighter operations to prevent and control potential hazards to firefighters. It was noted that in 2019 7 officers had accidents, from 2020 to May 2021 there were 9 accidents by firefighters during extinguishing operations. So it is necessary to know the factors that influence accidents on firefighters.

Methods: The qualitative descriptive research was conducted with a case study approach based on the high number of work accidents in firefighters. The research was conducted in the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department of DKI Jakarta Province in 2021. The instrument used was in-depth interviews.

Results: The result of data analysis revealed that the level of risk for the work of firefighters was that there are 13 extreme risk levels, 3 high-risk levels, 7 middle-risk levels, and 3 low-risk levels.

Discussion: Control recommendations that must be carried out are monitoring the use of PPE, increasing cooperation between related parties, medical checks up and repairs for the fire extinguishers. This is to reduce the risk of accidents to firefighters.
