Introduction: Gout control programs in the community independently and sustainably require the involvement of all parties. The low level of knowledge and motivation of the community in efforts to control gout requires participation to increase knowledge and motivation regarding efforts to prevent and treat gout.
Methods: This research uses a qualitative research study with a descriptive approach. The sampling technique in this research used purposive sampling, and data collection methods used interviews, observation, and documentation. While the data analysis technique uses miles and Huberman.
Results: This research results showed that the failure of the linear communication process between facilitators and community groups still found communication problems or what is usually called communication disturbances (noise). Source barriers, barriers felt by the facilitator are semantic or language barriers, such as the use of language, terms, or the choice of "foreign" words heard by community groups. Meanwhile, in terms of obstacles to the community group suffering from gout as recipients, it is considered a lack of attention when receiving or listening to messages, or not seeking further information, especially regarding information on implementing gout management based on independent community counseling and empowerment. It is considered that the Lasswell communication model applied by the facilitators with this community group has been able to increase the knowledge of the community group, however, the Lasswell communication model from an effective perspective, especially efforts to change community attitudes and behavior in dealing with the problem of gout, is still not working well. The Aristotelian communication model applied by health cadres with community groups has been able to increase knowledge cognitively, but this communication model has not been able to increase knowledge effectively. Berlo's communication model between facilitators and groups of people suffering from gout is only able to increase community knowledge in the form of positive knowledge and affective knowledge about managing gout independently and sustainably. The transactional communication model between health facilitators and community groups suffering from gout is considered capable of instilling understanding, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation related to communication programs based on counseling and empowerment in the community. Osgood and Schramm's communication model between community group facilitation in socialization communication programs, and counseling on the management of asthma based on counseling and empowerment for the community independently is considered to be working well and effectively.
Discussion: This research concludes that the Lasswell communication model, which is a form of the one-way communication model, and The Shannon and Weaver communication model between cadres as facilitators and community groups, have been able to increase cognitive knowledge, but have not been able to increase motivation for the community. Ariestotle's communication model between facilitators and community groups has been able to increase knowledge cognitively, but this communication model has not been able to increase knowledge effectively. The communication model between facilitators and community groups is only able to increase community knowledge in the form of positive knowledge and affective knowledge about managing gout independently and sustainably. Barnlund's transactional communication model between facilitators and community groups can increase community knowledge and motivation to overcome gout based on community empowerment and be sustainable independently. Osgood and Schramm's communication model between facilitators and community groups can increase community knowledge and motivation to overcome gout based on community empowerment and be sustainable independently.
