Abstract

Introduction: Mother's Milk (ASI) is the best food for babies. Breast milk is known to contain the most appropriate nutrients in quality and quantity for the growth and development of infants. From birth, babies should only be given breast milk until 6 months which is called exclusive breastfeeding. According to WHO data as many as 136,7 million babies are born worldwide and only 32,6% are exclusively breastfed in the first 6 months. While in developing countries only 39% of mothers give exclusive breastfeeding. Based on the results of a preliminary study at TPMB Midwives S and TPMB A data were obtained on breastfeeding mothers in the TPMB Midwife S and TPMB A West Jakarta areas there were 6 babies (60%) who were given exclusive breastfeeding while the other 4 babies (40%) did not get breast milk exclusive due to insufficient milk production, causing babies to be given formula milk.

Methods: The design of this study used a quasi-experimental without a comparison or mock experiment with the design used being a post-test only control group design. The sample consisted of 30 post-partum mothers consisting of 15 intervention groups and 15 control groups. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling. The independent variable was the consumption of long bean leaves and the dependent variable was milk production in postpartum mothers. Data collection uses an observation sheet. Data processing techniques include editing, coding, scoring, tabulating, and statistical tests like the Mann-Whitney test.

Results: The results of this study were obtained in the group (given long bean shoots) when the pre-test was carried out the average post-partum mother's milk production was 2,87 with a standard deviation of 0,743 and a minimum value of 2 and a maximum value of 4. Meanwhile, during this post-test, the average milk production was 5,60 with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 6, and a standard deviation of 0,507. The Mann-Whitney statistical test shows that the value of p = 0,001 <a (0,05) so that Ha is accepted.

Discussion: The conclusion is that consuming long bean leaves affects breast milk production in post-partum mothers. It is recommended for health workers to make this long bean leaf research an input to increase breast milk production in post-partum mothers.
