Introduction: Postpartum blues is a mild and temporary psychological condition that commonly occurs within 3–4 days after childbirth, characterized by mood swings, anxiety, and irritability. If not properly managed, it may develop into more serious psychological disorders such as postpartum depression. One preventive nursing intervention is providing education using audio-visual media, which combines visual and auditory elements to enhance understanding and retention of information. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of audio-visual media education on the level of knowledge of postpartum blues prevention among postpartum mothers.
Methods: The research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study involved 30 postpartum mothers selected through total sampling. Data on the respondents’ level of knowledge were collected before and after the intervention. The statistical analysis used was the Marginal Homogeneity Test to examine differences in knowledge levels before and after the educational intervention.
Results: The findings showed that before the intervention, only 20% (6 respondents) had good knowledge about postpartum blues prevention. After being given education using audio-visual media, the percentage of respondents with good knowledge increased significantly to 73.3% (22 respondents).
Discussion: The results indicate that audio-visual media education effectively enhances mothers’ knowledge about postpartum blues prevention. Providing educational materials through engaging and easily understandable media can help postpartum mothers recognize early symptoms, seek timely support, and maintain psychological well-being after childbirth.
