Digital Literacy Health and Reproductive Health in Early Adolescent Girls
Keywords:
digital health literacy; reproductive health; adolescent girls; health education; digital technologyAbstract
Adolescent girls are increasingly exposed to digital technology as a primary source of health information, including sexual and reproductive health information. Digital health literacy plays an essential role in enabling adolescents to access, understand, evaluate, and utilize reproductive health information appropriately. However, limited access to reliable information and sociocultural barriers often hinder adolescent girls from obtaining adequate reproductive health knowledge. This scoping review aimed to explore the role of digital health literacy in improving reproductive health among early adolescent girls. The review followed the Arksey and O'Malley framework. Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Google Scholar using the keywords “literacy health,” “reproductive health,” and “early adolescent girl.” A total of 524 articles were identified, and after screening and eligibility assessment, 11 articles were included in the final review. The findings indicate that digital health literacy improves access to reproductive health information, supports informed decision-making, strengthens communication between adolescents and parents, and promotes healthy reproductive behaviors. Digital-based reproductive health education should be integrated into school and community programs to support adolescent reproductive health outcomes.Downloads
