Introduction: Culinary content on social media combines vivid food images, eating sounds, and social cues that may trigger appetite independently of physiological hunger. Objective: To analyze the effect of watching culinary content on social media on appetite among nursing students. Methods: A randomized pretest-posttest experiment involved 72 nursing students allocated to a culinary-video group or a neutral-video group, with 36 students in each group. Participants watched a standardized 10-minute video. Appetite was measured using a 0-100 visual analogue scale before and immediately after exposure. Independent t tests and multiple linear regression were used. Results: Baseline appetite was comparable between groups (46.3 vs 47.1; p=0.823). Appetite increased by 24.5 points after culinary videos and by 2.4 points after neutral videos. The between-group difference in change was 22.1 points (95% CI 15.4-28.8; p<0.001; Cohen's d=1.60). The association remained significant after adjustment for fasting duration, sleep, and baseline appetite (beta=20.3; p<0.001). Conclusion: Brief exposure to culinary content on social media substantially increased immediate appetite among nursing students.
