Association Between Personality Traits and Nurses’ Caring Behavior in 2024
Keywords:

Introduction: Caring behavior shapes the quality of nurse–patient relationships, while personality traits may influence daily interactions. Objective: To describe associations between five-factor personality traits and nurses’ caring behavior. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis used 100 synthetic nurse profiles with five personality scores and the 24-item Caring Behaviors Inventory (CBI-24). Spearman correlations were calculated for each trait. Results: The mean caring score was 87.4 on a 24–144 scale. The strongest positive correlations were for agreeableness (ρ = .47; p < .001) and conscientiousness (ρ = .39; p < .001); neuroticism had a negative correlation (ρ = −.26; p = .009). Extraversion showed a weak association, while openness was not significant. Conclusion: The synthetic pattern provides associations for future testing among actual nurses. It neither demonstrates causation nor provides a basis for personnel selection.
