Abstract

Introduction: Inpatient sleep can be disrupted by noise, discomfort, and changes in routine. Objective: To describe the association between evening music exposure and changes in sleep quality. Methods: A two-group before–after analysis used 60 synthetic inpatient profiles: 30 received 30 minutes of calming music before bedtime over three nights and 30 followed usual routines. Subjective sleep quality was recorded on a 0–100 scale and changes were compared between groups. Results: Mean scores changed from 45.2 to 68.4 in the music group (a 23.2-point increase) and from 46.1 to 52.3 in the comparison group (a 6.2-point increase). The between-group change difference was 17.0 points (p < .001 in the synthetic dataset). Conclusion: Music exposure was associated with a larger improvement in synthetic sleep scores. Clinical benefit in real inpatients cannot be inferred from these generated records.
