The Relationship Between the Role of Infection Prevention and Control Team and Nurses' Compliance

Abstract

Introduction: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) remain a major challenge in improving healthcare quality and patient safety. Nurses have an important role in preventing infection transmission because they interact directly with patients during healthcare services. The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team has a strategic role through education, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation to improve nurses’ compliance with infection prevention procedures. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the role of the Infection Prevention and Control team and nurses’ compliance in implementing infection prevention measures. Methods: This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving 120 nurses at a hospital. Data were collected using questionnaires measuring IPC team roles and nurses’ compliance with infection prevention standards. Data analysis included univariate analysis and Spearman correlation test. Results: Most nurses perceived the IPC team role as good (65.0%) and demonstrated high compliance (68.3%). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between IPC team role and nurses’ compliance (p = 0.001; r = 0.542). Conclusion: The role of the Infection Prevention and Control team is associated with increased nurses’ compliance in implementing infection prevention practices. Strengthening IPC programs through continuous education, supervision, and evaluation is important to improve healthcare safety.
