Abstract

Introduction: Febrile seizure is one of the most common neurological disorders in children, especially in the age group of 6 months to 5 years. Although generally benign, febrile seizures may cause parental anxiety and require appropriate management to prevent complications. The prevalence and characteristics of febrile seizures vary depending on population characteristics, healthcare access, and environmental factors. Objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and characteristics of febrile seizures among children treated at Sepatan Hospital, Tangerang. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive retrospective design based on medical record data. The population consisted of pediatric patients with fever who visited Sepatan Hospital from January to December 2025. A total of 300 pediatric patients were selected as samples. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and percentage analysis. Results: Among 300 children with fever, 78 children experienced febrile seizures, resulting in a prevalence of 26%. Most children with febrile seizures were aged 12–36 months (57.7%), male (61.5%), and had simple febrile seizures (82.1%). The most common associated condition was upper respiratory tract infection (55.1%). Conclusion: Febrile seizures remain a common pediatric problem at Sepatan Hospital Tangerang, predominantly occurring in toddlers and male children. Early identification of risk factors and appropriate education for parents are needed to improve management and reduce anxiety related to febrile seizures.
