Abstract

Introduction: Lampu Hijau is a daily newspaper categorized as a yellow newspaper in Jakarta. The headline on the main page typically contains 10–20 words and is written in "market language." Therefore, the editor is key in determining the main page headline.

Methods: This research adopts a qualitative approach using a case study method. The data collection techniques involve both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were obtained through interviews and observations, while secondary data were gathered from books, websites, newspapers, and articles.

Results: The findings show that the editor plays an important role in determining Lampu Hijau's main page headline. The editor edits the headline submitted by the reporter and decides the appropriate angle based on the newspaper’s criteria and target segmentation, primarily the middle to lower-class community.

Discussion: Headline selection for the main page relies heavily on the editor’s judgment and personal taste. In addition to content considerations, the editor must also adjust the length of the headline to fit the available page layout.
