Correlation Between Parenting Style and Personal Hygiene Independence Level in Preschool-Aged Children in Steps of Relatives Kindergarten, Gunung Terang Village, East Oku South Sumatra in 2022

Introduction: Parenting is a way for parents to raise children to carry out personal hygiene independently both physically, mentally, and socially. Children who are independent in personal hygiene can improve the degree of health and hygiene in preschool-aged children. The health impact on pre-school-age children as a result of the inability to maintain independence in personal hygiene is the incidence of diarrhea. The purpose of this study was to describe parenting tendencies used by parents, and the relationship between parenting styles and the level of independence in personal hygiene of preschool-aged children.
Methods: The type of research used in this research is a descriptive correlation. The design of this study used a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was 35 preschool-age children in Step Sanak Maju Kindergarten, Gunung Terang Village. The sampling technique in this study is total sampling. So, the sample in this study was 35 people. This research instrument uses a questionnaire. For analysis of the data, researchers used the chi-square test.
Results: The relationship between parenting parents and the level of independence of personal hygiene on skin, nails and feet, hair, teeth, and mouth, and genetics in preschool-aged children at Step Sanak Maju Kindergarten, Gunung Terang Village, Oku Timur, South Sumatra 2022, obtained a p-value = 0,032; meaning p-value < α (0,05. So, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between parenting parents and the level of personal hygiene independence in skin, nails and feet, hair, teeth, and mouth, and genetics in preschool-aged children.
Discussion: Based on the results of the study, it is known that parenting styles are more that are not good, personal hygiene independence is more that are less independent. Statistical test results show that there is a relationship between parenting parents and the level of independence of personal hygiene on skin, nails and feet, hair, teeth, and mouth, and genetics in preschool-aged children.
