Relationship of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Cleaning Service Workers to Management of Medical Solid Waste in Hospital X in 2022

Abstract

Introduction: Management of hospital medical waste is very important because medical waste has various risks to the health of everyone, including hospital employees, patients, and the public. The management of infectious solid waste at Hospital X in Depok City is carried out by the cleaning service team for the sorting and collection stages at the service unit. Knowing the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in cleaning service workers on medical solid waste management at Hospital X in 2022.

Methods: This study used a quantitative research method with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study were all cleaning service officers at X Hospital with a total of 42 cleaning service officers and as many as 38 respondents as samples. Data analysis was performed univariate and bivariate with the Chi-Square test.

Results: The results of the analysis show that there is a relationship between knowledge (p-value = 0,002 and OR = 13,933) attitude (p-value = 0,001 and OR = 14,733), and the use of PPE (p-value = 0,007 and OR = 9,286) in cleaning workers services for medical solid waste management at Hospital X in 2022.

Discussion: Increase cleaning service knowledge about solid medical waste management by conducting regular training/seminars, and providing rewards for cleaning service officers who have carried out solid medical waste management properly every month and reactivated Clinical Assessments.
