Abstract

Introduction: Pre-eclampsia is a syndrome characterized by an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (140/90 mmHg) respectively with or without proteinuria which can occur in the antenatal intranasal and postnatal periods. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the availability of health information, the knowledge of mothers, and the history of the disease to severe pre-eclampsia in women giving birth at Pagelaran Hospital in 2022.

Methods: The research method used was descriptive observational using a cross-sectional approach involving 76 pregnant women who gave birth from November to December 2022 in the Midwifery Emergency Room at Pagelaran Hospital.

Results: The results of the study concluded that there was a relationship between the availability of health information (p-value = 0,000); the mother's knowledge (p-value = 0,000); and medical history (p-value = 0,000) against severe pre-eclampsia in women giving birth at Pagelaran Hospital. Thus, this study concluded that all variables had a significant relationship with the incidence of severe pre-eclampsia.

Discussion: This research suggests that health facilities, families, and pregnant women should increase their literacy on pre-eclampsia, how these risk factors occur, and their effects, and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
