Relationship of Knowledge, History of Exclusive Breastfeeding and Parenting Style with Stunting in Toddlers

Introduction: In Buniwangi Village Pagelaran sub-district of the 487 infants who were weighed the prevalence of stunting was 5,76%; with a very short incidence of 0,20% (1 toddler); and 5,56% (27 toddlers) so the total number of toddlers experiencing stunting in Buniwangi in 2020 is 28 babies. Nutritional problems, especially stunting in toddlers, are caused by insufficient food intake and disease as a direct cause of various factors that can influence stunting events including the mother's knowledge history of exclusive breastfeeding, and parenting patterns in toddlers in Buniwangi Village in 2022.
Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional study design on 28 mothers who had stunted babies aged 25-59 months.
Results: The 13 people (46,4%) had less knowledge; 15 people (53,6%) did not give exclusive breastfeeding; and 16 people (57,1%) had poor parenting; while out of 28 babies who have stunted 15 babies (53,6%) experienced stunting in the very short category. Meanwhile, the results of the chi-square test showed that 10 mothers with less knowledge had children in the very short stunting category; 7 with a p-value of 0,004; which means there is a relationship between knowledge and stunting. Meanwhile, the p-value of a history of exclusive breastfeeding with the incidence of stunting is 0,007 which means there is a relationship, and the p-value of parenting style with the incidence of stunting is 0,020 which means there is a relationship.
Discussion: The relationship between a mother's knowledge, history of exclusive breastfeeding, and parenting style with the incidence of stunting so it is hoped that health workers can increase knowledge, exclusive counseling, and good parenting counseling so that the incidence of stunting can decrease.
