The Relationship between Exclusive Breastfeeding, Parenting Patterns, and Socio-Economics with the Incident of Stunting in Toddlers

Abstract

Introduction: Short Toddlers (Stunting) is a nutritional status that is based on the PB/U index (Body Length according to Age) or TB/U (Height according to Age) which is the anthropometric standard for assessing children's nutritional status. Stunting occurs as a result of long-standing conditions such as poverty, inappropriate parenting behavior, and frequent recurring illnesses due to poor hygiene and sanitation. The research aims to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, parenting, and socio-economic patterns with the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the X Health Center Working Area in 2021.

Methods: This research is quantitative analytical research with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study is parents who have young children in the Working Area of ​​Puskesmas The research instrument used to collect data is by using a questionnaire or questionnaire. Researchers used the Chi-Square test.

 Results: The results of statistical tests on the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting with a P value = 0.035 and OR= 2.979, the relationship between parenting styles and the incidence of stunting with a P value = 0.003 and OR= 4.259, and the socio-economic relationship with the incidence of stunting with a P value = 0.000 and OR= 6.900.

Discussion: From the results of research that has been carried out, it was found that there is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, parenting patterns, and socio-economics with the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the Working Area of ​​Puskesmas X for the January - March 2021 period.
